The history of Studer

Founded in 1912, Fritz Studer AG is the leader in internal, external and universal cylinder grinding, and in non-cylindrical grinding.

logo marque Studer

The company has more than 110 years of experience in the design and manufacturing of high-precision cylindrical grinders. It is renowned for the quality, precision and durability of its products. With more than 25,000 systems sold, Studer offers hardware, software, system integration and services of the highest Swiss quality.

On its site in Thun in the Bernese Oberland, Fritz Studer AG produces complete, made-to-measure grinding solutions. In addition, its customers benefit from the company’s knowledge and know-how in the field of grinding.

Studer’s fields of activity

The company’s systems are used across a very varied range of applications. Sectors include the automotive industry, the clock-making industry, manufacturers of dosing systems and manufacturers of pump turbines and reduction gears. This diversity can be explained by the fact that Studer’s grinders can be used on glass and ceramics, but also on diverse metals.

High standards

Studer makes sure that all the components meet the demanding requirements that apply to the special conditions of grinding applications.

Plastics that are resistant to spraying liquids

By way of example, one essential aspect is the resistance of the plastics to the liquids that are sprayed during the grinding process.

The closed system housings contain a mist saturated with cooling lubricants. The requirements for the chemical resistance of the sheaths, power cables or seals are therefore very strict.

Pre-test storage at high temperature

Before the components are tested, they are stored at high temperature in the corresponding environment for several months.

Their production is only authorised if the alteration of the parts is within a percentage range at a statistically verified figure.

Diversity of the materials

The broad diversity of the materials constitutes an additional requirement. Studer’s experience has demonstrated that modern water-miscible synthetic cooling lubricants are very aggressive. Furthermore, the widely used products based on organic oils degrade numerous common plastics.

Consequently, on the strength of its experience and numerous tests, Studer offers informed advice on the choice of cooling lubricant, in addition to its machines.

LÜTZE SUPERFLEX® cables

Studer has already been using the excellent LÜTZE SUPERFLEX® cables for cable carrier chains for many years. These cables, which are insulated by an outer sheath made of special TPE or extremely slippery polyurethane, have enabled Studer to conduct some very informative experiments.

Studer’s engineers cooperate closely with the experts from LÜTZE in order to respond efficiently and quickly to innovations on the cooling lubricants market.
